CSL Weekly Call To Action

lajollalight.com

A read an article about Tresha Souza who started a program where she would give free meals to homless people or people who are just hungry or have had some tough times. She had a lot of points to start this program, but one of the bigger ones is to teacher her kids how important compassion is. The President of the Town Council was not aware of her program, but when he found out he understood the difficulties of feeding the homeless. He said that if you feed the homeless then they might gather around your neighborhood, and some people fear that. He also said that if you don’t feed them then they don’t get any food at all. Tresha Souza wanted to expand her program to Pacific Beach so she could take care of both PB and La Jolla. She wanted the homeless to have showers, shelter, and job help programs. this article inspired me to help the homeless more and try to find them jobs, and shelter.

Documentary Reflection

I thought it was very interesting to make a documentary because I felt like I had put a lot of work into it, and it made me feel like I kind of specialed in my topic. It was the first time I made a documentary and it was a really good experience. It was fun making the audio and finding the pictures and just everything about it was pretty interesting

One thing that was frustrating was working with a group because sometimes your group can get off task, but overall working in a group was really fun. Another thing that was frustrating when you feel like your done, but then you remember you have to do something else.

My opinion didn’t change at all through the time period about my topic, I felt like I had chosen the right topic and it was a fun topic to do. I also thought our whole group was pleased with our topic the whole time.

I wouldn’t be that interested in making more documentaries in the future, I’ll probably have to, but this one was a good experience. I definitely thought it was interesting, but it wasn’t really fun. Actually I would be interested in doing another one.

I thought my group corperated very well, but at times we could get a little silly, but mostly we’d be right on track. If someone got off track one person would remind them to not be silly, so that really helped us corperate.

I am very pleased with our final essay and audio, we put a lot of work into it and it seemed like it payed off. I’m sure I can speak for my whole group about being happy about the finished product. I think everyone contributed just the amount they needed to and that helped us get it done quickly, but with details.

If I was creating a documentary I would probably do it in groups of two so one person could work on the essay and the other could work on the audio. It seemed kind of like three people was a little to much.

I thought it was a great idea to right our own rubric because it shows our own opinion on what we need to get done in order to have a good documentary. At times it can be difficult to manage a project like this, but the calender did help. At times it’s just hard to know what you need to do at that moment, but the calender really did help us mostly at the beginning of the project.

I thought this was a very good way to learn about history. It seemed fun working with a group and making an audio and adding pictures. The best part is the feeling of when your done with a big project and you did a lot of work, but most importantly did your best.

CSL Weekly Call To Action

In Philidelphia, homelessness decreased by 50% between the years 1997-2000. Philidelphia citizens convinced officials to create affordable housing for homeless families and drug addicts. This organization was one of the first in the country to build a coordination center. The organization provides education for children and adults and gives students summer employments. The organization states that ending homelessness is possible if more people get involved and let officials know that they want affordable housing too. This article inspired me to get involved because ending homelessness would be a huge accomplishment for our country. With bad economic circumstances right now, it would be a big impact.

Homeless Issue Moving to the Forefront

Ariane Broderson is fed up with the growing homelessness population in La Jolla. She has been trying to come up with ways to solve the problem, but has been unsuccessful so far. Ariane has grown uncomfortable walking around the village with her seven year old daughter and dog. One time, she was verbally abused by homeless man and rushed her daughter and dog back to her car, but lost her wallet in the fiasco. Another time, a man who had been yelling in Wells Fargo went outside and blocked her with a shopping cart as she was trying to leave the store. My opinion on this is that I would be scared and uncomfortable if those unfortunate events happened to me, but despite this, we cant just drive them out of town because they have nowhere to go. On the other hand, we cant let them hurt people either.

Homeless Living In Old Hollywood Studios

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-studio-squatters14-2009may14,0,810714.story

This article is about homeless people’s belongings being found in the old TV Channel 13 building in Hollywood. There was a new one built, but when people went inside the old building they found a mound of trash literally 3 feet high and 20 feet long. Everyone was disgusted. The homeless even put inaproppriate pictures on the walls. Police have also found trash, sleeping bags, etc. behind people’s garages, under homes, and on yards of unoccupied homes and apartments. I think the homeless shouldn’t be raiding old buildings, but should be able to stay in places like shelters. I don’t think it’s okay to mess up buildings and treat them like a dump with piles and piles of trash everywhere; they should go to shelters, and not stay in places they shouldn’t.

Huns Documentary

In my groups Huns documentary we have got our rough draft finished for our essay, we have collected pictures of the Huns and put them in a folder. Next we will be working on recording our video, and editing our essay and script after. We have left us a couple days before the project is due to fix anything that needs to be fixed. We don’t have an introduction or conclusion, but our first paragraph is about the Huns in general (what they did, where their from etc.) and their culture. Our second paragraph was about Atilla the Hun who was the Huns leader. Our last paragraph was about the Hunnic Empire.

Some Of The Kinder Planets

Some Of The Kinder Planets by Tim Wynne-Jones is a book with four short stories including Night of the Pomegranite, Tashkent, Strangers on the Shore, and Tweedldum and Tweedldead. These stories are based in Canada and are very unpredictable, but quite humourous at times. These are not the kind of books I usually read, but I have found that they are okay. These books remind me of Ned’s Head we read earlier in the year. Which was also a semi-short story that was humourous and also unpredictable in my mind. All of these stories are quite different from eachother and hard to follow at times. Some of the stories have an ending where you really dont think it’s going to end, so that throws you off. These stories in my mind are not bad stories they just got a little weird in my mind because I’m not used to these kind of stories so I had to adjust and try to follow them.
